CSEE PARTICIPATED IN THE PROJECT AS A COOPERATING ORGANIZATION IN THE PREPARATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STEM WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS OF VARAŽDIN COUNTY
Project goal:
Encourage the popularization of STEM among children and young people through capacity building activities of CSGE and at least 4 other NGOs, and through the establishment and implementation of STEM Center activities in the Geotechnical Faculty.
Project purpose:
The purpose of this project is strengthening the capacity of the Croatian Society of Geotechnical Engineers (CSGE) and other NGOs for the active involvement of children and young people and the general population in the popularization of STEM through the implementation of targeted STEM programs, improving cooperation with the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering of the University of Zagreb.
This project will increase the natural science and engineering skills of children, young people and other citizens who will be involved in activities and programs intended to increase the popularity of STEM.
Project results:
- Conducted 5 soft skills development trainings for members and employees of CSGE, CSEE and other NGOs
- Conducted 5 study trips in Croatia: Oroslavje, Zagreb, Split – Starigrad Paklenica – Krasno, Osijek – Križovec, Pula – Medulin (Premantura) – Višnjan
- Conducted 4 foreign study trips: Atena – Nikozija, Berlin – Pariz
- Visited 2 fairs/conferences in EU member countries: Split, Prag
- Adapted, arranged and equipped space of the STEM Center for children and youth
- Arranged the permanent exhibition of the Geological Collection with more than 160 cataloged samples of rocks and minerals
- Created 15 STEM Center programs for lower and upper grades of elementary school and high school students
- Created a set of didactic materials for the implementation of the STEM Center program
- Conducted activities in the STEM Center with 31 pilot groups with the participation of 530 students of primary and secondary school
- Created web application for STEM popularization – Virtual geological collection
- Created e-learning for the popularization of STEM and the virtual implementation of the STEM Center program
- The website of the Center was created with the aim of promoting the STEM center and the Geological Collection
- A program of field workshops and a set of worksheets were developed with the aim of popularizing STEM for children of primary school age in the field of environmental engineering, and the necessary equipment for realization was acquired
- Conducted 9 worskshops in Varaždin County primary schools for 379 students
Project budget: 2.290.750,91 HRK (304.034,89 EUR)
The project was financed from the State Budget of the Republic of Croatia (15%) and
from the European Social Fund (85%).
